Millennials vs Baby Boomers: Money Edition

“There’s a problem for millennials; the middle class is shrinking.

Quartz reports that when the baby boomers were in their 20s, nearly 70% of them were in the middle class. In contrast, only 60% of millennials were middle class at the same age. More millennials are entering that uber-rich class than ever before but more are also slipping into lower-income brackets.”

Research Confirms, No One is Thinking About You

“Do you still think the people around you are spending a lot of time thinking about everything you do and say? Science disagrees.”

Just Go Home

“As a fresh wave of young adults graduates from college this month, I offer this unsolicited advice. Think about what it is you want for yourself. If you’re unsure, think twice before rushing to places like New York City, which are unforgiving (in more ways than one).”

  1. Millennials vs Baby Boomers: For the young millennials getting split between the uber rich and the poor (as opposed to how boomers faired).
I think it makes sense. I was a hiring manager and a millennial when I still worked and I would throw money at people who are good.

In tech, one good employee can achieve 3x what a bad one can so I would happily overpay them to keep them. On the other side if someone is mediocre, there are millions of mediocre people to choose from, so why bother hiring them at all :|

Once upon a time work life balance was universally better (I think) so you didn’t end up with these stand out people. From my experience, it makes sense that young millennials are split economically.
